I am a Pan-African feminist. Originally from Ghana, West Africa
As an artist/writer, I am drawn to abstract expressionism. I am highly influenced by the vibrant West African culture and the diaspora as a whole. My work challenges the audience to question and experience freedom through colors. I had my first private viewing at the Smithsonian MOAD in San Francisco and recently debuted at New York Fashion week in the Art District in Chelsea, NY.
As a self-published writer and author based in New York City, I have also recently published two books titled Layered Complexities & Soul Love ( A collection of poems and affirmations which focuses on self-actualization, awareness and mindfulness)
Layered Complexities, 2018
Layered Complexities, is a collection of some of Emelia Lartey’s written affirmations and poems. This book uses poems and affirmations to challenge and inspire the reader to actualize the human experience. Lartey uses her rhythmic language and poised structure to dive into themes like Trust, Envy, Forgiveness and so much more.
Soul Love, 2017
Soul Love, is a collection of some of Emelia Lartey’s written affirmations and poems. Her words journey through awareness, self love and self actualization. This book is not a tell-book evoking or provoking negative thoughts, but is rather full of positivity, affirmations, poems and highlighting a way forward.
“The collection uses vibrant colors and juxtaposes patterns in protest of conventionality by coloring the absence and shadows of light. The collection challenges and insists on the idea of freedom.”
